THE GHOST IN THE MACHINE: AI AND THE FUTURE OF ART

 MAIN ARGUMENTS AND EXAMPLES

- AI can't be an author of art's pieces. Example: the thaler V. Perlmutter case.

- AI must be treat as a collaborator and artist may do the curation. Example: Refik Anadol's and Linda Donia's works and 'A single piece of american cheese".

- The curators and critics evaluate art, AI pieces with timeless principals as intent narrative and emotional depth.

- AI can be more creative than humans. Example: an study reveals that humans rated AI-generated art higher than human's art.

-People have more interest in human made imperfections, the how has become as important as the what.

- Human's moat are the experiences and fellings. Example: AI can't paint the guernica as picasso but it can use that information to cretae other image.

-The ethical dimension. AI'operation is based on scrap millions of images without any permission. That is why the use of AI must be justified.

SUMMARY

Artificial intelligence is transforming the art world, but it cannot be considered the true author of artworks. Legal cases like Thaler v. Perlmutter emphasize that human involvement is essential for authorship. Instead, AI should be understood as a collaborator: artists use it as a tool while retaining control over intention and curation, as seen in works by Refik Anadol or Linda Dounia.

Even with new technologies, art is still judged by timeless principles such as narrative, intention, and emotional depth. Although some studies suggest AI-generated art can be perceived as highly creative, audiences often value human imperfections and the creative process itself. The “how” becomes as important as the “what.”

Humans maintain a unique advantage through their experiences and emotions. AI can replicate styles (like Picasso’s Guernica) but cannot reproduce the historical and emotional context behind them. Finally, ethical concerns remain crucial, as AI systems often rely on data scraped without consent. For this reason, the use of AI in art must be critically and ethically justified.
